Food Crisis Worsens
May 23, 2023 – The food crisis in South Sudan continues to worsen. Food distribution and aid agencies face risks from violence, bureaucracy, flooding, and poor road conditions. The food security crisis is aggravated due to ongoing conflicts. Approximately 7.76 million people (62.7% of the population) are expected to experience severe food insecurity from April to July 2023. In specific areas of Jonglei and Unity State, 43,000 individuals may reach Catastrophic (IPC Phase 5) acute food insecurity, while 2.90 million people could face Emergency (IPC Phase 4) acute food insecurity.
