WMC Training in Maiwut
May 16,2023 – Maiwut, South Sudan. Today Aqua-Africa completed the training of Water Management Committees (WMCs) at Palang. The WMC of Kuer-Deng under Palang went ahead this evening and mobilized their community to teach them about their roles and responsibilities as a community.
The WMC spoke to them about their goals and desires as community representatives, as well as their expectations of the community to enable proper management of their new water system’s infrastructure. Tomorrow, the WMC will begin a household registration process to determine the number of households, and before implementing the collection water usage fees from the users. For the community it is a paradigm shift, having never had to pay for their water. And yet, the economic and health benefits are strong motivators.
