Youth Summer Camp

June 16, 2023 – Omaha, Nebraska USA. Annually, Aqua-Africa South Sudan’s U.S. partner hosts a youth summer camp to bring awareness to the organization’s international work, it’s immigrant leadership, and the application of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in another part of the world (South Sudan). The program, that is a partnership with the University of Nebraska Lincoln, the 4-H, and Imagine Science targets middle school youth. In its second year, the program has doubled in size. Called “Build A Hut” Camp, the program teaches students construction engineering, solar energy engineering, and civil engineering concepts through “hands on” learning activities. The camp concludes with a unique one-day competition, where the competing students construct full-size African huts and equip them with solar lighting, fans, and running water from a solar-powered water tower. The winning construction team wins $1,000 for their organization’s math and science program. The exposure to another culture and economic principles are other important aspects of the program.

The 6-week camp just completed it’s full week of instruction.
